Emily Counts

Last place you went that you absolutely loved?

One of my favorite hike spots from several months ago was Dungeness Spit on the Olympic Peninsula.

What do you value most in a friendship?

Humor & acceptance.

Do you believe in ghosts? Why or why not?

I have never personally experienced a ghost but it seems likely that they exist in some form. Energy may linger.

What's your favorite holiday? Why?

My favorite holiday is Halloween. I love to dress up and every year I am a wizard.

What's your favorite thing/hobby to do when you're not working?

Admiring and collecting rocks and agates on beaches.

Who's your biggest inspiration in the art world? (Preferably a woman) Why?

Yayoi Kusama has always been one of my favorite artists and getting to view her Infinity Mirrors exhibition at the Seattle Art Museum this summer was wonderful. I first visited one of her infinity rooms in 2004 and it hugely influenced how I think about installation and the experience of viewing art.

What never fails to cheer you up?

Any fireplace. And also snow.

What's your happiest memory from the past year?

The wedding of one of my best friends. It was overwhelmingly beautiful and inspiring.

What are you most thankful for?

The people I love.

Favorite dessert?

My favorite dessert is s’mores. It is also the food I am best at preparing.
