Giselle Gyalzen

Show you’re watching right now on Netflix?

I’m not watching a show on Netflix, but I am watching Handmaid’s Tale on Hulu. I just finished reading the book, too. It’s insane, especially with what’s happening right now. Some of it is too real.

Favorite place to get Mexican food in San Francisco?

It’s on Mission Street and it’s right by my house. It’s more home-cooked, their tortillas are handmade; it’s so good. I almost don’t want to say it because I don’t want everyone to know about it. It’s called El Buen Comer. You should go.

What’s your #1 weekend activity?

Urban Hiking with my husband and kids. We’ll walk around the city, or go to Glen Park Canyon, which is close by.

What’s a secret talent you have that nobody knows about?

I don’t know if I have the talent anymore since I don’t use it, but I used to be in choir in high school and I love to sing. I do karaoke; I don’t know that I’m good at it, but I love doing it.

Who was your first childhood hero? Why were they your hero?

That’s easy; my dad. He had to work outside of the country while I was growing up but he worked so hard and has strong connections with my mom all of his kids so even though he was physically away he was emotionally close to us.

Do you have a favorite Disney movie?

I love Moana! I have to say, we’ve seen it many, many times and we can sing all the songs. We watch it over and over.

I know you’re into design - what’s your favorite item in your house?

Katie Gong had a show at Rare Device and we bought one of her braids, and it’s in my house now, hanging, and I love that so much. It’s my favorite piece in the house right now.

If you could only eat one thing for a week, what would it be and why?

Cheese and crackers. So good.

Last place you travelled? What did you like most about it?

We were in Palm Springs right after Christmas, for New Years, and I love the architecture there, the modern 60s and 70s vibes are so different from San Francisco so it was refreshing to see that. I love that there’s cacti everywhere, and the modern buildings with the plants, the hills and the colors of the horizon; I just love it.

What’s a beauty product you’re obsessed with right now?

I just met this woman who has her own skincare line called Botnia. She lives in Sausalito and she has a garden where she grows most of the ingredients for her beauty line. So she gave me samples of her serum, her face wash, and her moisturizer, and I’ve been using it since and it's so good!
