Susan Cho

Favorite pastry?

I really love Japanese pastries. I love anything made with red bean and/or mocha.

Where would you go on a road trip? Why?

The Alvord Desert; I’ve already been three times this year, and six times in my life! It’s seven hours away from Portland but it’s my ultimate favorite place - you have to go. It’s a dried-up lake bed that’s 7 by 12 miles and we just camp out right in the middle. Going on a full moon is really beautiful; we did that the past two times - you can see everything around you lit up by the moon with this really mysterious dark blue in the middle of the night. Every time we go we discover something new. There’s a bunch of hikes you can do, and we could never get sick of going there. The road trip down there is beautiful, it’s seven hours but feels like three.

When was the last time you went to a library?

Technically, there’s a sushi restaurant that’s out in Hillsboro that’s in a building that used to be a library, and I went two nights ago. It was delicious. But if you’re talking about a legitimate library, I think the Seattle Public Library was the last one.

Last book you read? What did you think of it?

Cover to cover? The last book I read was Sputnik Sweetheart by Haruki Murakami. I love a good sad lovestory.

What are you looking forward to in the next few months?

Next month I’m visiting home for the first time in a year. It’s my brother’s birthday, so I’m just going to go hang out with them.

Favorite TV show? Why?

Right now, it’s Game of Thrones. I can’t stand being left out of conversations at the office about TV shows… that’s probably my biggest incentive to keep up with all the latest episodes.

Is there a skill you’d like to learn? If so, what?

I want to be better at cooking. I’m actually going to go sign up for Blue Apron right after this! I just feel like I’m in a box right now with my cooking - when I go into a grocery store I always buy the same things. I just want to expand my palette. I just got a coupon in the mail, so I’m gonna do it.

What’s the last random act of kindness you witnessed?

I read about a lot of them. But I don’t know… you don’t see a lot of them anymore.

Favorite jewelry?

I don’t really wear a lot of jewelry! I just like simple and discreet jewelry that you can wear every day and never take off.
